APIs and subscriptions

Weik.io 2026.2

Create gateways, deploy and promote API versions, and give callers access through subscriptions.

On this page

An API is published as versions, and an API deployment serves one version in one environment on one or more gateways. A gateway is an entrance of one environment with its hostnames, the networks that may call it, its client certificate rules and its rate limits, and the platform obtains and renews the certificate of every hostname unless you upload one.

A subscription gives a caller access to APIs on one gateway, with an API key, a query parameter, basic credentials, an OpenID Connect token, a client certificate or no credential at all. The key is shown once and only its hash is stored.

weikio gateway create#

Create a gateway in an environment. --networks is required, so no gateway is left open by a forgotten flag. Give it internet to admit any caller. The reply says who can reach the gateway and where each hostname’s certificate comes from.

Terminal
weikio gateway create <name> [--env E] --networks internet|CIDR,... [--hostname H ...] [--display-name S] [--served-by hub|site] [--entrance N ...] [--projects p,...] [--default] [--like G] [--relay-from G,...] [--client-certificate none|optional|required] [--authority A=CA.pem[,CA.pem] ...] [--caller-limit N/W] [--subscription-limit N/W] [--upstream-networks CIDR,...] [--max-request-size SIZE] [--server-certificate NAME=CHAIN.pem,KEY.pem ...] [--certificate-source automatic|public|platform|uploaded|AUTHORITY] [-y]
Argument or flag What it does
<name> The gateway to create.
--like <like> A gateway to copy networks, entrances, client certificate rules, limits, upstreams and request size from.
--display-name <display-name> The gateway’s display name, or “” to remove it.
--hostname <hostname> A hostname callers use to reach the gateway, repeated for each hostname.
--networks <networks> Who may call: internet, or address ranges such as 10.0.0.0/8, comma separated.
--served-by <served-by> Who serves it: hub, or site for site agents with the capability gateway=<name>.
--entrance <entrance> An entrance the gateway listens on. Repeat for each, by default the hub’s entrance when the hub has one.
--projects <projects> The projects that may use the gateway, comma separated, or “” for any project.
--default Make it a default gateway, used by deployments and subscriptions of its projects that don’t choose one.
--relay-from <relay-from> The hub gateways of the same environment that may relay calls into this site gateway, comma separated.
--server-certificate <server-certificate> A certificate for its hostnames, as NAME=CHAIN.pem,KEY.pem, repeated for each certificate.
--certificate-source <certificate-source> Who signs its hostnames: automatic, public (the installation’s public authority), platform, uploaded, or a certificate authority’s name.
--client-certificate <client-certificate> Client certificate: none, optional or required.
--authority <authority> An authority whose client certificates the gateway accepts, as NAME=CA.pem[,CA.pem], replacing that authority's CA certificates, repeated for each authority.
--caller-limit <caller-limit> Calls allowed per caller address, as N/W, such as 600/1m. Each APIM instance counts its own.
--subscription-limit <subscription-limit> Calls allowed per subscription without its own limit, as N/W, such as 600/1m. Counted across all APIM instances.
--upstream-networks <upstream-networks> The address ranges its APIs may call, comma separated, or “” for anywhere.
--max-request-size <max-request-size> The largest request body it accepts, such as 10MB, or “” for the platform’s limit.
-y, --yes Don’t ask for confirmation.
--reason <reason> Reason for the change, stored with the audit record.

gateway internal created (environment production, revision 12)
Listens on the hub's entrance 'public' to callers in 10.0.0.0/8.
api.example.com points at this hub. Requesting its certificate from Let's Encrypt. HTTPS is served once it's issued (weikio describe gateway internal).

weikio gateway set#

Change a gateway, keeping the fields you don’t set. Fields you don’t set keep their values. Adding a hostname makes the platform obtain its certificate, unless you upload one.

Terminal
weikio gateway set <name> [the flags of create] [--no-default] [--remove-hostname H ...] [--remove-server-certificate NAME ...] [--projects ""] [--remove-authority A ...] [--revoke-certificate A=leaf.pem|SHA256 ...] [--unrevoke-certificate A=leaf.pem|SHA256 ...] [--no-caller-limit] [--no-subscription-limit] [--upstream-networks ""] [--max-request-size ""] [-y]
